Sweet Baby J arrived much earlier than his mama anticipated. I guess he just wanted to make his debut a few weeks early! But because of being a preemie and having to spend some extra time in the hospital, we did not get together to do his newborn photos until right around his actual due date (when he was already 5 weeks old.) Newborn sessions are typically done before a baby reaches 10 days old because after that time they are no longer in that super sleepy stage and are much more sensitive to being touched while asleep, making those sweet sleepy poses more difficult. However, preemies tend to stay as sleepy as a newborn up until around their original due dates. Baby J was no exception. He slept well for us and let us pose him and dress him up like a champ!

This little lady was 10 days old when her great grandma brought her to me for a newborn session. Great grandma was going to surprise her granddaughter with a session, but at the last minute decided to bring her granddaughter along. So they pull up, we greet each other and they come in and get settled. I tell the baby’s mother that she can go ahead and take off the baby’s clothes awhile. Only then does great grandma chime in and mention what they are here for…lol. I’m sure mama thought I was crazy for a minute! I figured since she had come along she had changed her mind about surprising her!

Here is sweet Miss Lakota. She was a darling sleeper and loved all of my snuggle time.

And seriously, what new mom looks this good?! Especially when she had no idea she was getting her pictures taken!
