Newborn Sessions

Newborn sessions are booked based on your due date, but we all know these little ones can make their appearance early or late. I leave time in my schedule to accommodate that. It is best to contact me when you are still pregnant so I can mark your due date on the calendar. Then, when your little one is born you will contact us to set an exact date and time for the session. Newborn sessions must be done before the baby is 10 days old. After the 10 day mark they are no longer as sleepy and bendy and much harder to pose. If you have already had your baby, please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to try and fit you in before the 10 day mark.

Newborns sessions are lots of work and lots of fun! To make things easier, I have created a list of things to expect/bring with you.

-Sessions can last up to 4 hours (be prepared to be patient as we work around baby’s schedule allowing time for him to nurse/eat and coax him into a deep sleep. Feel free to kick back and relax while I take care of your precious bundle. Don’t worry, I will give him back when he’s hungry!)

-Dress in layers (it will be HOT in the room. This will make for sweaty adults, but a happy naked baby)

-Bring extra clothes for yourself. (I shoot babies in their birthday suits. With so much nakedness someone is bound to get peed or pooped on. Whether that’s me or you…we just don’t know!)

-Bring plenty of formula/milk and expect to feed your baby more often than normal. Newborns can sense when they are somewhere else and often like to “snack” to comfort themselves (which also helps put them into a nice milk coma :)

-Bring a pacifier and a warm baby blanket. I will use both while getting them positioned and to keep them happy from pose to pose.

-Don’t forget the diapers and wipes!

-If you plan on doing mom and dad shots, I suggest you wear black or white shirts (or dad’s can go topless.) This keeps the focus on the baby where a bolder/patterned shirt would compete for attention.

-If you plan on doing shots with a sibling I suggest you leave the sibling at home with dad or grandma if possible until we are nearing the end of the shoot. Newborn sessions take a long time and older siblings don’t usually enjoy all of the waiting around.

-Please let me know ahead of time if you plan to do sibling or parent shots so I can prepare with my backdrops ahead of time.

-I have tons of hats/props available to use, but if you want to bring something along that has special meaning to you, by all means please do! Let me know ahead of time if you can so that I can start thinking up ways to incorporate them.
